We always talk about what to do before your next Air-Tan, but what about what NOT to do? Here are a couple of things you want to avoid before your next appointment.
- Moisturize.
I’m sure you’ve heard all of us here at Air-Tan preach about how important moisturizing is for your tan, but you want to wait until AFTER your tan to moisturize your skin. If you come in to your appointment with a layer of lotion or oil on your skin, that can block your tan from developing evenly or even at all! If you have especially dry skin (like most of us do this time of year), I like to make sure I moisturize really well the days leading up to my tan, exfoliate really well in the shower to get all the extra dead skin off and then come into my appointment with clean fresh exfoliated skin. The moisturizers in our solution (especially in the organic plus solution) will make your skin feel more moisturized instantly and then you can apply lotion again after your first shower.2. Work Out (or anything that will make you really sweaty!)
It’s tempting. You know you’re going to shower in 8 hours after your tan anyways, why add an extra shower in between your workout and your tan (you definitely don’t want to get a tan and THEN workout!)? The answer is actually the same as why it’s best not to moisturize before your tan. Sweat also acts as a barrier between your skin and the tan developing so in order to be sure you get an even tan – clean exfoliated skin is the best way to go.3. Don’t leave on an old tan or self tanner
Trust me! I know it’s hard being pale, even for a day, but don’t be tempted to grab that old bottle of self tanner or tinted moisturizer under your sink to hold you over until you can get in for your nest Air-Tan. I’ll say it as many times as I need to – clean and exfoliated skin is best! This means exfoliating off any old tan, too. Spraying new tan on top of an old fading tan doesn’t help even it to out or cover up the old color, but it IS the fastest way to a spotty orange tan.4. Don’t fail to prepare!
While an Air-Tan appointment is super fast and easy, it is important to know the steps before and after your appointment, too. As we’ve covered, you want to plan to be freshly exfoliated when you come in for your appointment. Come in or with the right clothes to wear afterwards (anything loose!) Women – prepare to go bra-less for a little while. If it’s raining, make sure you have clothes to keep your skin from getting rained on and don’t plan on doing a big load of dishes after dinner if you just got tanned that afternoon (darn!) If you have any questions or need any tips and tricks for emergencies – just ask your technician and they can lead you in the right direction! We always want you to have the best tan possible!
