It might be your first Air-Tan or it might be one of many – regardless, we have some tips for you!
Taking care of your tan after getting it applied always results with an amazing glow as long as some love & care is involved.
I am here to show you how!
Some of these quick tips may seem simple, but they are extremely important for maintaining your Air-tan – continue reading to learn how!
1: DO NOT WEAR TIGHT CLOTHING
Have you ever rinsed your tan and found some questionable lines that resemble where the seams sat on your skin? How about wearing tight socks and shoes = getting white feet? Our tan needs room to breathe and develop, and it needs to do this with less interaction between you and your clothing as possible. If you walk out of our salon looking like a Bum, trust me, you’re doing it right!
2: DO NOT TOUCH YOUR SKIN
It’s so hard to forget you have a developing tan, especially when it looks so natural. Touching your skin while the solution is working it’s magic only results in one thing… tanned or stained hands. In the current climate, it’s pretty hard to remember not to touch your face while putting your mask on and off – but the MOST difficult (at least for me) is not touching your skin while you sleep. A great tip I learned early on if you’re a wild sleeper like me is to wear long sleeves and pants, even though it can get toasty! Your hands will thank you. Not a fan of that advice? No worries, another great tip is to pull a sheet or blanked in-between your legs/arms – and if you tend to curl up (like I do) Shove your hands under your pillow – That usually prevents any kind of sleep stains from forming. No skin contact – no un-wanted staining.
3. DO NOT GET WET
That means NO water on the skin. NO exercising. (yes, sweat just like water, can leave streaks) NO washing the dishes. Be VERY cautious in bad weather. ALWAYS make sure your covered head to toe. Above all – NO crying (yes I’ve also done this, and it’s not a good look!)
4: NO SOAP FIRST RINSE
You just had your first shower and can now finally live life, right? but wait.. what kind of shower did you just take… Soap? Scrub? Loofa? Wash cloth? normal? WRONG. Please always just use your hands on your first rinse. Get all that solution off with just water and your hand until the water runs clear.
STRANGE? yes. IMPORTANT? also yes.
Feel free to shower like normal after your first shower, but BE CAUTIOUS on what exactly you chose to wash with – which brings us to number 5:
5: BE GENTLE WITH YOUR SKIN
Body wash comes and goes – we want your tan to last forever. The harsher the exfoliant or ingredients – the harsher it will be on your tan. Two words, SULFATE FREE.
Washcloths are great for getting OFF tan but def not for maintaining. Any kind of rough rubbing of the skin will just strip the tan. So go easy and be gentle. Oh, I know those warm water showers can be so relaxing and soothing, especially on a cold day or even after a really busy day – you can almost just check out in the shower. But don’t stay in too long and most definitely don’t take super hot showers because that will break the tan down as well. As cool as you can go in the showers without making yourself into a human ice sculpture, the better.
6: HYDRATION!
Last, but ABSOLUTELY no least, make sure you hydrate! The healthier your skin is, the longer your tan will last. Drink water, and MOISTURIZE MOISTURIZE MOISTURIZE. Again, not only will this make your tan LAST LONGER, it will also allow your tan to fade evenly. Dry skin and spray tans do not mix well and will result in patchy or scaled tan skin {not a cute look}
