At Air-Tan, we always recommend shaving before your appointment
Shaving in itself does exfoliate your skin & the less you exfoliate after your tan, the longer your tan will last. Your tan will last a week+ so we get it, you’re probably going to want to shave after your tan as well, so here are a few tips.
• Let’s rewind for a minute to before your Air-Tan •
Shaving before your Air-Tan is not only important so that you shave less after your appointment, but if you shave & exfoliate before, it gives us a smooth surface to spray over to give you the most even tan. If you are waxing or using another form of hair removal, DEFINITELY do that before your tan.
Can you shave RIGHT before your appointment?
This really depends on your hair & skin.
I have very blonde & pretty fine hair on my legs. I have shaved right before getting my tan and it has turned out just as well as if I shave the day before. However, if you have darker or coarser hair, I would probably recommend shaving the night before to give your pores a chance to close up before you come get tanned so the tan doesn’t settle in your pores.
You’re tanned & looking fabulous, but it’s time to shave again. Now what?
Since shaving does exfoliate the skin, which isn’t ideal for the longevity of your tan, we have a few tips to remember:
1. Make sure you give your tan a chance to develop fullyOf course - you want to wait at LEAST 8 hours for the tan to develop before you shower/get wet/etc, but I find it’s best to be as gentle as possible during that first shower. I like to rinse gently & only use my hands instead of a loofah or a washcloth. If you can, wait until the next shower to shave.
2. Use a fresh razor
Dull razors that have been overused & sitting in your shower for too long are not good for your skin or your tan. Using a fresh razor & lightly gliding smoothly over your skin will cause less exfoliation than a dull one.
3.Use moisturizing shaving products
Some shaving foams & gels can have harsh ingredients & alcohols that can dry out & strip your skin which is NOT good for your tan. Don’t dry shave - & look for moisturizing products or creams. Razors with moisturizing strips also work great or I find that just using conditioner as the soap is an awesome alternative.
4. Try not to shave daily
Shaving isn’t going to completely remove your tan after one swipe, but the less you exfoliate your skin with your tan
on, the longer your tan will last. And of course moisturize, moisturize,
moisturize. We really like Aveeno as a daily moisturizer. Stay away from moisturizers with oils as that can remove the tan.
Yes, you can shave after your Air-Tan
