You booked your first spray tan! So exciting! Now do you have some questions on preparing for your appointment in order to give your spray tan the best start? I promise it’s all very easy, and no rocket science involved!
When it comes to your beauty routine, an Air-Tan should be your last step. So go ahead and book that wax, pedicure, or hair salon appointment first! Make a whole “treat yourself” day out of it for some extra self loving care!
Now let’s dive into the actual preparation of the body. We like to say around here to remember the three simple steps: “Shave, Shower, Exfoliate.” I personally like to treat myself to a bubble bath before my tans, you know the type of relaxation heaven with candles and pure bliss. Take my time shaving my legs, then really give my body a good scrub down. It truly is best to get off any dead skin and buff any dry spots for the best spray tan results possible. This can easily be done with an exfoliant paired with a good exfoliating mitt, or even just a washcloth. We carry a wonderful Air-Tan Exfoliating Scrub . The formula consists of glycolic acid which actually removes dead skin cells on contact.
After we are done with our shower, it is important that we skip any lotions or body oils. Lotions and body oils can create a barrier between the tan and the skin, sometimes preventing the body from soaking in the color fully and evenly. We also recommend skipping deodorant if possible, as sometimes deodorant likes to react with the bronzers and give our armpits a beautiful patina blue/green coloration. Now if you already have deodorant on, don’t fret. It will not be the end of the world. I promise your armpits are not stuck looking like we are in the process of transforming into the Incredible Hulk. This will come off just fine when we shower in 6 to 8 hours after our tan, if it acts a little stubborn, just rub your hand lightly over your armpits in the shower to help guide that color right off!
Once you are nice and fresh, consider yourself a nice clean blank canvas for that spray tan! Now when it comes to getting dressed, I recommend going ahead and just wearing loose dark clothing in for after your tan. Save yourself the worry of packing an extra outfit and just come in as you plan to leave. We have many clients with late evening appointments that actually go ahead and just wear their pajamas in, as they plan on sleeping while their tan sets!
